Year 7, 4th Waxing Crescent, day 4
I don’t know what to write here. Mommy said writing my thoughts down would help with my studies. I don’t understand how writing could help me with learning magic or fighting. She told me to write about something cool. Nothing cool ever happens locked in the castle.
Year 7, 10th First Quarter
I overheard Daddy talking to some of the guards today. It sounded important but when I tried to ask what they were doing, they just said not to worry about it. Well I’m worried about it. I tried to also ask Mommy but she told me it was just grown up stuff and it probably was boring. I doubt that, they all seemed in a hurry.
Year 8, 6th Waning Crescent, day 2
I made a friend today! I don’t know his name but he was cute! I seen him outside of my window this morning. He was my age with short brown hair and brown eyes. He waved to me! Finally someone I can play with besides my older brother! He told me he would come see me again tomorrow when there wasn’t so many guards around.
Year 8, 6th Waning Crescent, day 3
He came and seen me again! He told me his name but I couldn’t pronounce it so he said to just call him Mal. It was a wonderful name. We talked for awhile about hobbies and favorite foods. Though, I am lucky my room is on the first floor of the castle or I probably would not have met Mal. I cannot wait to speak with him again.
Year 9, 7th Full Moon
Mal hasn’t came to see me the past few days. I hope he is okay.
Year 9, 8th Waxing Crescent, day 5
Some of the guards were talking about some of the children disappearing recently. It only made me worry more about my friend. He just has to be okay.
Year 9, 12th Waxing Gibbious, day 7
He finally came back! It was the middle of the night when he knocked on my window. His hair was a mess and I could tell he had a rough night but I was so happy to see him. He told me his mom had not let him leave the house due to children going missing. Though he said he could not miss my birthday so he snuck out. I scolded him but thanked him and took the necklace he made for me anyway.
Year 12, 1st Full Moon
It has been 2 years since I last saw Mal. He never came back after that night. I tried to ask around about him but I was only questioned on why I needed to know about some village boy. I only found out he had went missing when I stumbled upon my fathers paperwork. It was a list of all the missing children from the villages. There had to be around two dozen of them.
It was only when I came across Mal’s name that I fell to my knees in tears. My parents came rushing in at the sound and found me. They asked a lot of questions and for once, I told them about the boy with golden brown eyes and a gorgeous smile.
At first they were infuriated that I had withheld this information from them but, calmed down when they realized the boy had not brought me any harm and that I was indeed hurting. I do not know when or if I will ever write in this book again.
Sincerely,
Lumi
